Potato Chips
It’s the combination of salty and crunchy that gives potato chips their allure. Depending on the flavor, a 1-ounce snack bag has at least 150 calories. Munch your way through a large 8-ounce bag and you’re looking at 1,230 calories — not counting any dip.
Better Bet: Dip celery or carrot sticks in hummus. You’ll get a satisfying crunch with fewer calories and more nutrients.

I just wonder if, store bought, marinated artichoke hearts are healthier than, chips as an accompaniment to a sandwich, and how they measure up in the calorie, and fat categories.
That was a good thought. So I went and looked. These are Reese Artichokes (my personal fave), obviously it would vary some depending on brand and whatnot.:

It looks like the non-marinated are a better bet. Go that route and they stack up nicely as a replacement. Good call!
TY for your answer. I’ve bookmarked that page to do some comparisons over the weekend.
My pleasure. Let me know what you come up with.
My comparison so far seems to give the non-marinated cocktail artichoke the calorie count edge with about 60% less calories than marinated hearts. However, the information from other sources shows less ‘meaty,’ less ‘choke.’ And a personal observation, marinated tastes soooo goood. The oil must be the calorie culprit.
Now, for the next step. I’m going to have a look at various packaged chips for calorie counts. I would believe the chips are genrally worse than even the marinated hearts because, the oil they are cooked in, is not as good for human consumption. More after I get more on some chips.
All in moderation.
I think chips are killers. I like celery dipped in peanut butter myself. Lots of phytos there, but go easy on the peanut b if you’re counting calories i guess
You can also do PB2, which is dry peanut butter that you mix with water. It’s really good and much lower in calories.
I also like raw veggies with hummus for a good, dip-able snack.
